Unlike standard miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), MPCBs bundle isolation, short-circuit defense, and precise adjustable thermal overload safety thresholds into a single frame.
Dual Electromechanical Protection Systems
Industrial motors pull an inrush current up to 600% to 800% of their rated capacity strictly when starting up. A standard household breaker would instantly trip under these conditions. MPCBs avoid nuisance tripping by incorporating distinct physical mechanics:
- Adjustable Thermal Overload Trip: Employs integrated bimetallic strips tailored to mirror the motor's temperature profile. It features an explicit, external current setting dial ($I_r$). If a motor experiences locked rotor conditions or physical mechanical friction drag, the overcurrent heats the bimetal strip over time, executing a delayed trip.

Key Differences: TOR vs. MPCB
While a Thermal Overload Relay (TOR) must always sit downstream of a contactor and breaks only the *control wiring* loops ($95\text{-}96$), an MPCB functions as a true circuit breaker. It directly breaks the heavy structural three-phase *power contacts* inside its own chassis, extinguishing high-amperage electrical arcs safely without relying on companion contactors to drop out power.
